Quality > Infrastructure

The University of Valladolid has always been at the forefront of development in Information Technologies and, as a result, ranks highly among European universities in computer and network services, maintained by the Computer and Telecommunications Service. In 1987, the laying of fibre-optic cables in the city of Valladolid began to connect all the university centres and, one year later, the university had e-mail and services for connection to external equipment at a world level (telnet), becoming part of the RedIRIS and the NIC (Network Information Center) institute, which controls the Internet at a world level, in 1988. Said institute awarded us a B class network, the 157.88.x.x, which allows a maximum of 256 of the University of Valladolid’s own subnetworks and a maximum of 256 machines on each sub-network. In April 1992, all the Internet services were available (gopher, wais, news, e-mail, telnet, ftp, etc.), and in June 1993, it opened its own website: www.uva.es

The whole management service of the University of Valladolid (library, students, human resources, economic management, etc.) is computerised and uses leading edge RICS servers.

Joaquín Blume Trophy for the University of Valladolid: an award for promoting sport in education
An essential element in university life is sport. Thanks to the continued efforts of the qualified team of experts at the Sports Service, the practice of sport has spread amongst a great many lecturers, students and administration and service personnel of the University of Valladolid. As a result of this dedication almost every other student is involved in a sport of some kind, making up a critical mass whose participation in annual events brings success at both individual as well as team level. For these together with other merits and for placing at the disposal of the entire university community, in the Fuente La Mora Sports Complex, the most modern and advanced facilities for the practice of sports, it has been awarded the Regional Government of Castilla y León Diploma for the best sports organisation.

The University of Valladolid has a number of sports sections covering almost every discipline, and may be considered the largest sports club both in Valladolid, a city of over 320,000 inhabitants, as well as in the other cities in the university district. Its importance in the university sphere itself is even more far reaching, as it has hosted several Spanish Championships (earning the recognition of the Autonomous Region and the Higher Sports Council), and has won many titles in university competitions, a large number of Valladolid students taking part in both national and international competitions.

On 19th December, 2005 the Chancellor of the University of Valladolid received the Joaquín Blume 2004 National Sports Trophy from their royal highnesses, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain. This award is given to the educational centre which has proved most outstanding on promoting, supporting and furthering sport at university.

Vocation for service and transparency
As a reflection of an unquestionable vocation for service and transparency, the University of Valladolid, through its Communications Office and its website, www.uva.es, processes all the information generated by an institution as dynamic as the University of Valladolid is. In conventional and digital format, it publishes a monthly newspaper (Sibi Domum) and a weekly university agenda (Al loro), prepares two weekly television programmes and offers the entire university community advice and technical support in journalistic and audiovisual matters.
