The concern for university education
is also reflected in the Halls of Residence of the University
of Valladolid. These provide almost 1 300 students with an unrepeatable
experience in their personal and academic education, sharing in
the warmth of solidarity that is so typical of halls of residence,
with the complementary activities that each residence has to offer
and the close interdependence between them and the university
itself.
In order to achieve this, the University of Valladolid boasts
one of the oldest and most prestigious Halls of Residence in Spain,
the Colegio Mayor Santa Cruz, heir to the one
founded by Cardinal Mendoza in the 15th century, together with
two others: the Alfonso VIII University Hall of Residence
in Valladolid and the Duques de Soria Hall of Residence
in Soria. It also offers visiting lecturers and students over
400 places in the Cardenal Mendoza Apartments
and in the Reyes Católicos University Residence
for Postgraduates. There is also the university residence
as well as ten houses in Sedano (Burgos), which are used for academic
activities (language courses, meetings, etc.) and for leisure.
Set in magnificent natural surroundings and in an area rich in
history and monuments, it is located in an exceptionally beautiful
part in the north of the province of Burgos.
Five affiliated halls of residence together with numerous university
residences on the four University of Valladolid campuses, the
list of which is published annually in the University Guide and
on the web page www.uva.es,
provide an ideal response to the accommodation needs of the vast
number of students from other provinces and regions in Spain as
well as those from other countries. The Casa del Estudiante,
home to many of the administration services of the University
of Valladolid, and the Territorial Administration Units of the
other three cities (Palencia, Segovia and Soria) can provide ample
information concerning the offer of places in residences and other
rented accommodation. This information can also be obtained in
the Student Services and Information Centre (CISSE),
a service run by students of the University of Valladolid and
part of the Youth Information Points network of the Castilla y
León Regional
Government.
